Welcome to BigFish Ultimate
BigFish was founded in 2004 to provide players long on potential, short on experience to play on a competitive touring team. The BigFish mandate is to help players develop the skill and experience required to eventually earn a spot on a top open, women's, or co-ed team, while still fostering a strong team dynamic.
BigFish had a highly successful first season on the field, including 5th at Northern Flights and 4th at FROG and we expect that a few former players will earn roster positions with top teams in 2005 and beyond! What sets BigFish apart from other 'B' calibre teams is STRONG LEADERSHIP and FOCUS.
1. Gavin Thompson is entering his 16th season as a player, 8th as a coach. He has participated in 5 Nationals and 1 Worlds. Gavin is the team’s ultimate guru.
2. Kristi Dean recognized the need for a development team like BigFish. She has a long resume of captaining and coaching and her focus is on creating good team chemistry through open and consistent communication.
3. Kelly Johnson is the man behind Victory Training and Conditioning. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Kelly’s job is to whip your ass into game shape, while also helping to prevent and deal with injuries.
BigFish is seeking dedicated players for 2005. Open tryouts will be held jointly with seVen. If a player is committed to learning and improving, loves to practice, train and compete, but doesn't necessarily have the experience or skill set to crack an 'A' team just yet, BigFish may be the perfect match!
Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays. One practice will be dedicated to ultimate-specific training and conditioning.
The tournament schedule will include: a tournament in early May, Layout for Life, Gender Blender, Northern Flights, the Montreal Coed Tournament, Co-ed jamboree and FROG. If there is sufficient interest from the players, BigFish may also make a bid for Nationals to be held in Winnipeg in August.
